WHO WE ARE!

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of the Grande Prairie Region is an association of residential construction professionals who work together to make our industry stronger. Each member brings personal experience and knowledge to the Association. Through the Association, each member contributes energy and ideas that help to shape the future of the industry.Established in 1971 as HUDAC, and renamed in 1984 as the Grande Prairie Home Builders’ Association, and again in 2005 as the Canadian Home Builders’ Association - Grande Prairie Region, the CHBA - GPR represents more than 85 member companies including builders, developers, renovators, trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, financial institutions and a host of allied professionals. In addition, we are affiliated with both the Alberta Home Builders’ Association representing nearly 1,500 members, and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association which represents more than 7,000 companies.Participating in your Association activities leads to the development of personal and business skills and the opportunity to work closely with other professionals in the industry. Membership makes a difference!

What does it mean for you?

A Strong Voice in Government

Recognizing that governments, at all levels, have enormous impact on the housing industry, the Association has made industry advocacy a high priority.

We work closely with governments to encourage and ensure that economic regulatory reform initiatives increase affordability, quality and choice in housing.

Industry Knowledge

Immediate access to a great storehouse of knowledge that is available through monthly dinner meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences, technical publications, industry positions papers.

Networking Opportunities and Issues

Outstanding networking opportunities with professionals from every part of the residential building and renovation industry are a fundamental part of what the Association is all about.

At local Association functions (such as monthly dinner meetings) members compare notes, make business contacts, catch up on new developments in the local market and discuss common business challenges. Members work together on building and renovation shows, home parades, public seminars, sharing their knowledge an experience.

Local Association volunteer Committee work gives members the advantage of being plugged into the latest issues, understanding the challenges and being there to influence the changes.

Communication, Communication, Communication

Up-to-date information, current activities and initiatives are the focus of the monthly newsletter, which is available to over 85 members, businesses, government departments and associations.

Member Education

Keeping up with new technology and new ways of managing business is a key to staying on top. Membership offers these opportunities through the Professional Home Builders’ Institute training and development programs.

Professionalism

Membership encourages the commitment to professionalism in the most direct manner possible with the Code of Ethics and the Code for Disciplinary Action.

Show Your Stuff

Opportunities to show your stuff include sponsoring the wine at the monthly dinner meetings, sponsorships for the annual SAM Awards or golf tournament, entries to the annual SAM Awards, and participation in special charitable or promotional initiatives.

CODE OF ETHICS

Members shall comply with the Alberta Building Code and the National Building Code of Canada and/or all additional recognized standards applicable to the individual member as a minimum standard for that member’s services and shall work towards industry improvement.

Members shall be fair and honest with their customers, employees, sub-contractors, and suppliers.

Members shall co-operate, interchange information and experience, and encourage research on materials and techniques in order to provide better housing at lower costs.

Members shall avoid any conduct or practice likely to discredit or do injury to our industry.

Members shall avoid advertising that tends to mislead customers, deprecate competitors, or generally bring the reputation of the industry into disrepute.

Members shall display and encourage a sense of pride in belonging to the Canadian Home Builder’s Association.

Members shall perform and co-operate in the completion of their services in a manner that demonstrates the utmost competence.

Members shall actively encourage fellow members to uphold the professional image and reputation of the Canadian Home Builder’s Association.

These responsibilities are freely and solemnly assumed and form part of an obligation as members of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association.
